Weightlifting New Zealand becomes the first Olympic sport to adopt Integrity Code

02 February 2026

Weightlifting New Zealand is the latest member of Aotearoa’s sport and recreation sector to sign up to the Code of Integrity for Sport and Recreation (Integrity Code).

As of Sunday 1 February 2026, Weightlifting New Zealand and its members are formally bound by the Integrity Code and will begin working towards full compliance with its standards. The Integrity Code sets out minimum standards to help sport and recreation organisations prevent and respond to threats to integrity and create safe and fair environments for all participants.

Weightlifting New Zealand’s Executive Officer Anne Haw said adopting the Integrity Code is an important step for the organisation.

“We’re proud to adopt the Integrity Code and strengthen our commitment to ensuring a safe, fair, and inclusive environment for all members and member clubs of our community, including athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters.

“The Integrity Code outlines expectations around respectful behaviour, fairness in sport, safeguarding, and the responsibilities each of us has in protecting the integrity of weightlifting in New Zealand.

“By adopting the Integrity Code, Weightlifting New Zealand continues to prioritise athlete wellbeing, uphold high standards of conduct, and align with national best practice in sport governance,” she added.

Weightlifting New Zealand is the national sporting organisation for Olympic weightlifting and has responsibility for the sport from grassroots development through to high performance programmes.

Rebecca Rolls, Chief Executive of the Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui, also welcomed the announcement.

“We’re pleased to welcome Weightlifting New Zealand to the Integrity Code adoptee whānau – their adoption of the Code reflects a genuine commitment to integrity across their sport.”

Weightlifting New Zealand is the third organisation to adopt the Integrity Code, joining NZ Esports Federation (August 2025) and Scouts Aotearoa (November 2025).
