Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee Member

About the Role – Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee Member

We are recruiting for an additional member for the Commission’s independent Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) Committee (TUEC).

The purpose of the TUEC is to consider and approve or decline an athlete’s application to use a medication that contains a substance or involves a method that is prohibited in sport, for documented medical conditions.  The process for assessing TUE applications is regulated by the World Anti-Doping Code (Code), associated International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE), and in consideration of relevant World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines.

This role adds value to New Zealand sport by ensuring the robust, consistent and independent consideration of TUE applications, to support athlete health and protect fair competition.

This role requires the flexibility to review and comment on TUE applications in a timely manner and at times, on an urgent basis. Applications are received via the Commission’s online system where the Committee members will consider the application (online only).  There is also a requirement to attend an in-person annual meeting.

The role is paid at a set quarterly amount and there is an estimated 16 hours per quarter, although the hours may vary. The contract will be in place for 3 years.

The preferred role start date is 1 June 2025, with some flexibility.
