The Prohibited List details the substances and methods that are banned in sport. It is put together by the World Anti-Doping Agency and is reviewed annually.
The 2025 Prohibited List and Monitoring Program become effective on 1 January 2025. Our summary tells you what to look out for.
Blood donation not banned in registered collection centres
Clarification that the donation of blood and blood components (plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and peripheral blood stem cells) including by apheresis (a technology that separates blood components) is not banned when performed in a registered collection centre.
Beta blockers no longer banned in certain snow sports
The Prohibited List 2025 removes the banned status of beta blockers in skiing/snowboarding disciplines of ski jumping, freestyle aerials/halfpipe, and snowboard halfpipe/big air.
Ones to watch: Fentanyl and tramadol
Fentanyl and tramadol were added to the Monitoring Program to assess Out-of-Competition use patterns. WADA monitors the use of these substances through requiring reporting of the presence of these substances in a sample, while at this stage they don’t amount to an Adverse Analytical Finding, it provides information about the use by athletes and potential abuse patterns.
