Meet the speakers

Jelena Dokic

Former international Tennis player, broadcaster and award winning author (Click for bio)

Jelena Dokic is a former world No. 4 tennis player who competed at the highest levels of international sport, achieving remarkable success on the WTA Tour. A Wimbledon semi-finalist at just 17 years of age and winner of six WTA singles titles, Jelena’s rise through elite tennis was marked by extraordinary resilience, talent, and determination in one of the world’s most demanding sporting environments. Her personal story is one of survival, strength, and reclaiming identity beyond performance outcomes. Through her advocacy, writing, and public speaking, Jelena has become a powerful voice for athlete welfare, mental health awareness, and the urgent need for cultural change in high-performance systems.

Jelena penned the best-selling autobiography Unbreakable, a book which details her career and her life. In the book, she details the struggles of being a refugee, dealing with poverty, racism, bullying, and discrimination. She also talks about the physical and emotional abuse she suffered for over 20 years at the hands of her father which started when she was just six years old. She followed this up in 2024 with Fearless which talks more about how she approached life after Tennis and the triumphs and challenges along the way.

Unbreakable was later produced as documentary which was recognised with a 2025 Logie award for “Best Factual or Documentary Program”

Jelena will draw on both her lived experience and her journey beyond professional sport to challenge organisations, leaders, and practitioners to prioritise safeguarding, athlete wellbeing, and accountability. Her story is not only a reflection on the cost of unchecked power in sport, but also a compelling call to action to build environments where athletes can thrive safely and with dignity.

Lou Vincent

Former New Zealand cricketer (Click for bio)

Lou Vincent is a former New Zealand international cricketer whose career featured standout achievements across all formats of the game. Beginning his domestic journey with Auckland, Vincent burst onto the global stage with a century on Test debut in 2001. He became known for his energetic batting and strong adaptability, going on to represent the Black Caps in Tests, ODIs, and T20s. He later went on to play in domestic leagues around the world.

Vincent’s journey, however, took a difficult turn when he became involved in match‑fixing during overseas competitions. In 2014, he received a lifetime ban from cricket - an event that prompted deep personal reflection and significant change. While acknowledging this period with openness and accountability, Vincent uses his experience to shed light on the complex pressures, ethical challenges, and organisational vulnerabilities that can lead to competition manipulation.

Cassie Fien

International distance runner (Click for bio)

Cassie Fien is an international distance runner whose career reflects both elite performance and the complex realities of integrity in high-performance sport . A three-time Australian representative at the World Half Marathon Championships, Cassie placed an outstanding 18th at the World Championships in Cardiff, Wales, claimed the Oceania Half Marathon title in 2016, and is a back-to-back Sydney City to Surf Champion. She was also selected as first reserve for the Australian Marathon team for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Uniquely, Cassie is self-coached, embodying discipline, accountability, and independence at the highest level of performance.

A defining chapter of her career came when Cassie received a nine-month ban from competition after inadvertently testing positive to a prohibited substance found in a supplement she was taking — an ingredient that was not declared on the product label. Following investigation, she was found to have no significant fault or negligence, yet the sanction marked the darkest and most challenging period of her sporting career. That experience reshaped her understanding of responsibility, vulnerability, and integrity in elite sport.

Beyond athletics, Cassie is a retired Royal Australian Air Force veteran, with 18 years of service including a deployment to Afghanistan. She brings a rare, hard-earned perspective forged through elite competition, military service, and personal adversity
